Here we take a look at something a little different than shoes: Charles Paige Atelier. The next best thing to shoes is custom suiting, at least for me. I love a new suit and even though I hardly wear suits these days, I still love to have them and think that every proper gent should have at least a few in his wardrobe. Today we look at my latest suit: A navy flannel chalk stripe double-breasted suit, made by Charles Paige Atelier.
Charles Paige Atelier was founded by Lewis Malivanek and his wife Samantha Leder in 2019. Both had years of experience working at Knot Standard after having been in other careers and found themselves yearning for something different. Tired of working for a corporation, they decided to take their knowledge and create a custom suit brand their way, offering styles that resonated with their personal tastes.
Charles Paige Atelier makes a nice suit at a good price and in record-fast timing. They use some of the top cloths from Europe but are put together in China, hence the fast turnaround. But, I wouldn’t turn your nose up to Chinese suit production as it has come a long way and often does a great job. That is not to compare it to Savile Row or any other bespoke tailoring but when you have a need for time and price, it is often the Chinese production that can serve you.
Lewis is a pal of mine and has made many of my suits over the years, first at Knot Standard and now at Charles Paige Atelier. I fully support him and his work. So, if you are in NYC (or visiting) and looking for something quick and sharp-looking, check them out!
