The Rough Out Suede by TLB is part of a growing movement within the ‘dress shoe’ industry. And for good reason too. If we are all going to go ‘more casual’, then I would prefer we do it sticking to classic models but with more casual materials and robust soles. A chunky boot, or shoe, with rough leather, is much better than hybrid dress shoes with Nike-style soles and some cheap patina. And that is looking more like the reality of the shoe industry: classic casual boots and shoes with chunky soles and Loro Piana style loafers.

In comes the rough-out suede at TLB Mallorca. It looks different than the waxy commander leather which has less nap than TLB’s rough-out suede. And that rugged nap makes it look more casual but still pretty cool as I love a suede look without having to worry about roughing up my suede. It’s already roughed up for you, which means you don’t have to feel bad about wearing them less delicately. I think that is precisely most people’s hangup about suede. They are afraid to ‘ruin it’. So it already comes ruined, per se, then you can wear it as you would any other shoe, and finally enjoy it!

I quite like these rough-out suede models by TLB Mallorca. As the industry moves, I guess I am moving with it as I finally find myself more attracted to casual dress style ideas since my days no longer involve suits and the like. My desire to wear jeans is now accompanied by all kinds of dress shoes/boot models that easily fit underneath a nice pair of denim. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good dress boot, but I easily gravitate towards something like these when it is in the dead of Winter and it is less than 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Nothing beats something rugged with a nice tread on it to keep you feeling cozy on your feet!
TLB Mallorca has introduced a few newer boot models to keep in tune with this movement. Which one is your favorite?
