The inverted wingtip is a rare find. It takes gumption to offer it and even more so to wear it. It breaks the mold on what our minds see/feel as ‘what should be’ and gives us the ability to discover ‘what could be’. That is one of the great beauties of shoe design. There is the ‘the mold’ of classic ideas and styles. And then there is the ability to manipulate those to create something unique and fresh without going overboard. It is a fine line in the sand, but if done correctly can provide the industry with new, striking ideas such as the inverted wingtip.

Mario Bemer doesn’t shy away from bold designs, as you can see by the inverted wingtip shoe he created here. On top of the bold design, pairing that electric blue suede with black calf is another bold choice in itself. And that is what I love about Mario Bemer. He loves to push the boundaries with subtle, and some less subtle, ideas that you won’t see elsewhere. He does this often by manipulating the lines in the pattern and directing the line in a manner that might seem odd at first. But the more you look at it the more you see it flows, just in a direction you aren’t used to.

This shoe is a sample in his NY showroom but it can be made in any colors he has available. I was particularly fond of this color combination as it was the same one that I used when I first launched my own brand, on a pair of balmoral boots. You know the phrase, ‘Great minds think alike,’ and often feel that Mario’s ideas and my own align quite well. And that just might be the fact that we both worked with his brother, the late Stefano Bemer. Nevertheless, I love the striking combination here and love to see Mario’s unique designs that push the envelope, such as his inverted wingtip.
If you have the desire to seek out new, refreshing designs, definitely check out Mario Bemer’s catalog of shoes. There is a lot to be done there as each pair is made one by one.

Beautiful works of art. Who would have thought? At first the color combination threw me off a bit, but the more I look at them the more I like them. Just think of all the possibilities.
