Mario Bemer’s Ghillies encapsulates what I love about Mario Bemer’s style. In these saddle ghillies, Mario blends three styles to create the ultimate, unique derby shoe. He does so in a way that most would never think about. Adding a saddle on top of the quarter piece to divide the shoe into several pieces and allow for this beautiful mix of materials is nothing short of shoemaking genius. That is what I love about Mario Bemer’s shoes.

We all know that derbies are my least favorite style of shoe. I would literally wear every other style before gravitating to a derby style. But shoes like this are what make think twice. These Mario Bemer ghillies epitomize what I define as ‘shoe design’. It is all too easy to make a three-to-four-eyelet, apron stitch derby. Everyone has one and really, they all look the same. Sure, you could love one maker’s quality over the next, but none of them are really ‘special’. But these are special. These take the derby style and make it cool.

For some, these Mario Bemer Ghillies might be too flashy. And that is okay. Not everyone wants creative shoe design or to be noticed. Some love to fly under the radar. To each his own. But for those who seek out unique footwear, it doesn’t get much better than these beauties. What I love about Mario’s offering is that it appears that he can make any leather/material/color you desire. Just have a gander at his Instagram to see that. I could only find three variations, but the possibilities seem quite endless.

If you are like me and love a cool two-tone shoe with a saddle and ghillie lacing, well here you have met your match! Mario is a great guy so just reach out to enquire should you feel so inclined!
