When you love shoe design certain things just stand out to you immediately. That is what happened here with these new Victor Vulpe double monks that I casually saw while scrolling through Facebook. I caught a quick glance at these beauties and had to know more. I reached out to Victor Vulpe to send me more photos and tell me about the new double monks that he was presenting.

Victor Vulpe is a Romanian shoemaker who loves to push the boundaries of shoe design and shoemaking and has done a great job at that. He often participates in The World Championship of Shoemaking and is always in the top selection, having nearly won it a few years back. Since first meeting Victor around 6-7 years ago in London, he has been on my radar as one of the shoemakers to watch out for, especially as we share a passion for design.

On his latest shoe, he was commissioned a double monk strap. He tells me that he often convinces his clients to give him freedom of creation on the design to express himself there and more often than not, they acquiesce to this request. Smart of them to do so as he is a creative genius and is, therefore, able to make art that inspires others. So, he thought to himself ‘How do I differentiate a double monk?’ And he came up with the idea to alter the strap that is the main piece of a double monk.

The quilted design really caught my eye. I am a real fan of the quilted look, whether on clothing or shoes. The color was the other attractive factor. I love a nice, dark teal color. I don’t often wear it in shoes, but always think they look super cool and respect any man for pulling them off with style. Automatically the shoe was a win-win for me and seeing the details pushed them over the top to next-level footwear. But that is no surprise when it comes to Victor Vulpe as he always creates next-level stuff.

When you study the shoe carefully you appreciate the difficulty of the pattern. Not only that but the fact that he created the channels to stitch that quilted look. He did not simply stitch on top but rather cut those stitch channels to make it flush and not feel like grated sandpaper. That is dedication and what makes these Victor Vuple double monks to incredible.

I’ve just seen your comment to him and had to check that out! He always delivers great, inspiring works. That detail of channeling for the stitches is so Victor to me. Beautiful pair!
Cheers Brunon!
