Are you an inspiring shoemaker based in the UK? Or do you know someone who is? Well then, read on to discover what The Craft of Shoemaking Award is and how it can potentially benefit you!
The Craft of Shoemaking Award is a new award created by Carreducker Shoemaker (Deborah Carre and James Ducker, as shown above) in conjunction with the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers as a sister prize to their ‘Design Award’ that they already distribute each year. The Craft of Shoemaking Award is designed to keep the art of shoemaking alive within the UK and, maybe in the future, to the rest of the world.

The award not only serves as a goal to reach for young shoemakers but also a stepping stone to further one’s skills to thus enter the craft of shoemaking on a professional level. At the moment, it is open to UK-based shoemakers who are either students, apprentices, or non-professional amateurs looking to hone their skills and further perfect their craft.

The Craft of Shoemaking Award is a great opportunity to learn more about one of the world’s greatest crafts and it is amazing that such an ‘old-world-art’ is still being kept alive in a quickly-moving technology-driven society. Thanks to Carreducker, who has been teaching aspiring shoemakers for nearly two decades now and who also helped me in my entrance into the world of Savile Row during my time in London, which eventually allowed me to launch my own brand. I will never forget the help they offered and am proud to be their friend and see that they continue to do their part to help the shoemaking industry stay alive.
If you know someone who would be interested in this opportunity, please make sure and share. The deadline to enter is April 23rd, 2025.
